Volleyball takes ECAC championship by storm

After making it to the last round of the ECAC tournament, the Judges were able to pull an outstanding win over Colby-Sawyer College to win the ECAC championship crown. The Judges were the number one seeded team going into the competition and had earlier success that Wednesday against Framingham State and earlier that day as well. In the final match, the volleyball team won all three rounds of the game earning them the title. In the process Loraine Wingenbach '09 was named the tournament MVP for the Judges and individual standouts were prominent throughout the competition.

The Judges were able to defeat their opponents Keene State earlier this Saturday to finally arrive in the final round against Colby-Sawyer College. Their opponents didnt even have a chance as the Judges dominated, winning each game by over 10 points. The individual game scores were 30-19, 30-19, and 30-17. After three straight victories, the Judges were proclaimed the victors of the ECAC championships and concluded their successful season.

The Judges played well, and they even managed to pose a season high of .424 percentage in their last match. Numerous individuals, however, stood out for their performance against Colby-Sawyer College. Outside hitter Loraine Wingenbach was able to post 12 kills and no errors in her final match of the season. For these accomplishments, among other statistics, she was awarded the MVP award for the Judges. Middle Blocker Piera Carfagno 10 also had an amazing performance as she scored 12 kills as well. Classmate Bridget McAllister also stood out with her performance on Saturday with four blocks, five digs, 2 aces, and other remarkable statistics.

The Judges expressed much excitement at finishing their season strong in their last exhibition against Colby-Sawyer. We ended with a bang stated rookie Piera Carfango 10 about their last performance. She nevertheless believed that they had showed stronger performances at other competitions. We played strongly, continued Carfango, but I feel that we played better and more consistent earlier on. Other squad mates had comments about their last exhibition. Teammate Bridget McAllister 10 was also excited about the way the Judges ended their season. It was a strong finish, commented McAllister but next year we are definitely making NCAA's.

This is the last match for the Judges this season, but they ended well with a Championship title and strong showings by younger team-members. This performance finished an undefeated 10-0 record that the volleyball team had for home games, and provides momentum as the Judges go into the off season. This last event serves as a culmination of all their hard work and practice throughout the year, and shows exciting prospects for the team in future competitions.
