April Fool: Senate passes resolution not to congratulate basketball teams
Published: April 1, 2007Section: News
This past Sunday, the Student Union Senate passed by unanimous consent, a resolution not to congratulate neither the Men's nor Women's Varsity Basketball teams on their successes this season, during which both teams advanced to the NCAA tournament, but failed to make it out of the second round. Union President Alison Schwartzbaum said of the decision, It's not like we're Division I, or anything. The occasion marked the first time that both the Men's and Women's team have advanced to the tournament in the same season.
The full text of the resolution is as follows:
WHEREAS both the Brandeis University Men's and Women's Varsity Basketball teams reached the NCAA Division III tournament;
and
WHEREAS Brandeis University is one of only 13 schools to have had both teams make their respective tournaments;
and
WHEREAS both teams advanced to the second round of their respective tournaments, but no further;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Student Union Senate does not congratulate the players, coaches, and support staff of each team on their success and does not wish them good luck for next season.
