    Softball seniors honored at last home game with a win

    Brandeis finished its productive season on a high note earlier this week with three straight wins. Since losing five straight games at the beginning of vacation, Brandeis has won a game on each day that they played, going a total seven and two to finish the season at 20-23.

    Doug Mientkiewicz and the Boston Red Sox agreed to send the final out ball from the 2004 World Series to the Baseball Hall of Fame.


    Softball takes four of seven

    Last week, Brandeis Softball won four out of seven games over a four day period. The stretch started off with road games against Worcester State on Thursday and Saint Josephs College on Friday before returning to host Trinity on Saturday and Husson College for a double-header on Sunday.

    Cleveland's C.C. Sabathia was placed on the DL after straining an oblique muscle on Opening Day.


    Softball swipes four of six

    Brandeis has celebrated its return from Florida by winning four out of six games to start play up north. An extra-chilly day warranted extra innings as Brandeis won the first game Thursday, 3-1 over MIT. Brandeis struck first in the third inning when Elissa Glucksman 06 led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a Kaitlin Streilein 08 double. Streilein pitched a gem, giving up only seven hits in the game.

    MLB will investigate Barry Bonds alleged history of steroid abuse. Former senator George Mitchell was made leader of the investigation effort.


    Brandeis softball goes 1-4 to finish UAA tournament

    The Brandeis softball team finished up UAA play in Florida last week. Brandeis won only one of its final five games while dropping four. For the UAA tournament, Brandeis went 2-6, winning its two games against Case Western Reserve and losing all of its games against Emory University, Washington University, and the University of Rochester.

    Japan defeated Cuba 10-6 in the championship of the inaugural World Baseball Classic. Daisuke Matsuzaka, the starter for Japan in the final game, won the tournament MVP award.


    Softball has its moments under the sun

    This past Saturday, pitcher Kaitlin Streilein '08 pitched her first career no-hitter for Brandeis, as they defeated Wheelock College 9-0. The game was ended after five innings, as the NCAA employs an eight-run mercy rule.

    Juan Padilla, a reliever for the New York Mets, will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the entire season.
