Letter to the Editor: Discrimination at Brandeis

To the Editor:
I would like to say a few words about the oppression and discrimination here at Brandeis that Mr. Montgomery talks about. Let me share with you all just how right he is. The first day I got here and openly said that I was a Christian, I was verbally berated. I learned that I was responsible for all manner of atrocity ranging from the Holocaust to the Crusades. If that wasn't enough, it didnt end there. I frequently wake up to see stars of David burned into the grass outside. As I try to sleep, people shout graphic descriptions of the sacking of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple outside my doorall the while screaming, you did it! Welcome to my life, the life of one of those crazy Jesus people at Brandeis.

Letter to the Editor: Jew / Gentile divide

To the Editor:
I keep hearing cries from Brandeis goys that the Jews here are racist against them. One article of the Hoot complains that there is a Jew-Gentile divide and the writer is appalled that he over-heard a Jewish man say on a cell phone, talking about his girlfriend, that he didnt know about her anymore because shed been talking to a lot of Christians. This poor writer has to carry around the weighty label goy with shame, unable to date the frum Jews since they would never have him.

Taking the initiative

Thats what Jamele Adams has done. In Cindy Kaplans article (Jamele Adams, Dec. 9), there is mention of the fact that Mr. Adams does more than simply open his doorshe goes the extra mile and goes through them. In other words, he leaves his room in order that students can get to know him without having to schlep all the way to his office. I myself have taken part in two of his activitiesfor Shapiro 3B. One was full, the other virtually empty. In both cases, however, he was not upset that he came all the way over to visit students. The fact that he is willing to do so much for the environment, the atmosphere, and the spirit of this university is what makes him more than just a staff member, more than just a unit of the administration;

he is a contributing member of the society, an inspirational man with poetic words and exercises involving exciting controversy. Its about time we follow his example and take some initiative ourselves.
